Actress Nancy Marchand plays the role of Livia Soprano. Livia was married to Johnny Boy Soprano and she gave birth to Barbara, Tony and Janice Soprano. Her parents were Faustino, who is also know as Augie and Teresa was her mom. Her sister is also Quintina Blundetto.

Throughout the early years of her life, Livia lived in poverty and when Johnny Boy came into her view, she could not let the opportunity that marrying him would bring to her. She was not attracted to the responsibilities that being a married woman would bring though and especially the part of giving birth to children. Nevertheless, she wanted to escape from her parent’s home and so she married him.

Even though her husband provided bountifully for her she was never satisfied with what ever he did. She always wanted more and she pushed him to get more. While at the same time she would put him down in her speech.

The older Livia gets, the bitterer she became, but when Johnny boy died she was quick to sing his praises.

Her relationship with her children is not at its best. Her daughter Barbara left hand and Janice could not wait to leave home either and she did so shortly after her graduation from high school. Janice is convinced that Livia had placed broken pieces of glasses in her beverage. In addition to that Livia always has a remark to make about Janice’s weight. Nevertheless, when Janice found out that she had suffered a stroke, she returned to New Jersey to take care of her.

Tony would not allow his Carmela and his kids to talk about her in their home, however, he does not prevent them from visiting her. At one point, Tony thought that it would have been better to place her in a nursing home so that she could be well take care of. He didn’t believe that she could take care of herself on her own. Livia did not take too kindly to this and in return she tried to get Corrado “Junior” Soprano, Tony’s uncle to kill Tony.

However this murder plan was foiled and in return Tony planned to have his revenge on her. Before he could do that though, she suffered a stroke and was in the hospital for a little while.

Livia died about a year or so after her stroke in her sleep.

Nancy Marchand was born on the 19th June1928 in Buffalo, New York. She was married to Paul Sparer and they had three children.

She is both a Golden Globe and Emmy Awards winner. She has worked in the theater industry for many years and she has also acted in numerous films. Killjoy, Lou Grant and Reckless are just a few of those films.

Her husband however died on the 19th November 1999 from cancer. Nancy Marchand also died the following year, that is the 18th June 2000 from lung cancer and emphysema. She died one day before her 72nd birthday.
