Actress Lorraine Bracco plays Dr. Jennifer Melfi’s. Dr. Melfi is a psychiatrist who is well respected in her field. She is divorce and has a son who attends the Bard College.

Dr. Melfi has her share of daily living to cope with, but one day when she came face to face with Tony Soprano, the boss of the mob, more was placed on her plate than she was able to deal with. Can you imagine sitting and listening to the thoughts and the deeds of a mob boss? Will he really confess to all of the crimes, or for that fact to even one of the crimes that he has committed? Well, Dr. Melfi had to deal with these possibilities.

Tony Soprano chooses her because she was referred to him by one of his neighbors. You see Tony’s dad had suffered from anxiety attacks, but he did not know that, that is until his father’s adviser Hesh Rabkin told him. This was important news to Tony because he also suffers from it. Unfortunately, that is not where it stops, it was discovered that when Tony’s son, Anthony JR was sent to Hudson Military Institute, that he also suffers from it.

So Dr. Melfi accepted him as a client and begun her therapy. This patient however was driving her to medication. To deal with the stress of having him as a patient she often visited the liquor cabinet, so to speak.

Dr. Elliot Kupferberg is Dr. Melfi’s own therapist. One night when Dr Melfi was in a parking garage she was attacked and raped. There was some comfort though, and that was due to the fact that her attacker was caught. However, that was short lived because due to legal technicality her was released. Dr. Melfi is afraid of Tony and not just because of his job title, but because on several occasions she really thought that he would do her some physical harm. Still, she is a little bit glad that she knows him, because with the fact that her rapist was able to escape justice, if she asks Tony to “take care of the rapist” he would be able to do so.

Dr. Kupferberg has placed her on a drug that is intended to help those who suffers from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. In addition to that she is also placed on sedatives. Apart from the drug prescriptions Dr. Kupferberg has also advised her to stop treating Tony, because to put it lightly, having him as a patient was not good for her. So she listened to him and she stops treating, only to resume treating him shortly after.

When Tony asked her out on a date during the time that he and Carmela were separated, she did not accept his invitation.

Lorraine Bracco was born on the 2nd October 1954 in Brooklyn, New York and is both an Emmy and Academy award winner. Two other film that she has also acted in are Goodfellas and Hackers.
